Our PSHE Curriculum

At Telford Junior School, our PSHE curriculum is designed to empower children with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in all aspects of life. Through our curriculum, we place a strong emphasis on mental health and wellbeing, understanding and navigating relationships and living responsibly and respectfully in the wider world.

Our curriculum ensures that children learn about healthy relationships, mutual respect, and effective communication. By exploring topics such as diversity, inclusion and responsibility, pupils gain a deeper understanding of their role as active and considerate members of the community. Lessons are designed to inspire critical thinking, encourage collaboration and promote a sense of social responsibility, preparing our pupils for life beyond the school environment.

Our PSHE curriculum is not confined to standalone lessons, but is interwoven throughout the daily experiences of our pupils. We provide opportunities for reflection, discussion and growth, ensuring that every child is supported in their journey towards becoming confident, compassionate, and capable individuals.

At Telford Junior School, we are proud to nurture the whole child, helping them to flourish emotionally, socially and academically, so they are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Protective Behaviours

Protective Behaviours is firmly embedded in school life at Telford Junior School, through the delivery of Taking Care Project. Children are supported in building a trusted network of adults they can talk to.  The language of safety is actively used throughout the school, empowering pupils to identify risks, make informed decisions and seek help when needed. By fostering this culture of safety and openness, we aim to create an environment where every child feels heard, valued and protected.

My Feelings, Friends and Family

Our Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) curriculum: My Feelings, Friends and Family is thoughtfully designed to provide children with age-appropriate knowledge and understanding of human development, relationships and personal safety. We aim to equip pupils with the skills they need to build healthy, respectful relationships and make informed decisions. Lessons also focus on understanding the changes during adolescence. They will develop understanding of self-awareness, mutual respect, consent and the importance of kindness and inclusion. The programme ensures that children feel safe to ask questions from adults at school, in a supportive environment.

Thrive

We recognise the importance of nurturing positive mental health and resilience in our pupils. Central to our approach is the Thrive approach, which underpins our commitment to supporting emotional development and building self-regulation skills.
