Year Group Pages

Our pupils are taught in single year group, mixed ability classes. Teaching takes account of prior learning, with learning activities and resources in place to support the individual needs of pupils and to ensure that all learners are challenged to achieve their full potential.

To support a positive school ethos, we promote three guiding principles:

  • Being Respectful
  • Being Responsible
  • Being Ready to learn.

In Year 3 the children are introduced to these values and explore ways in which they can follow them, in order to help the children achieve their potential and be safe and happy in their learning. This awareness develops through Years 4, 5 and 6. In Year 6 this helps the children prepare for their journey ahead to secondary school.

Information about class activities and home learning is shared with parents/ carers on Year Group Padlets.

While the children will usually move into the Junior School in the same class groups, there are occasions when it is considered good practice to re-group the children to improve class dynamics. This could be at the point of transition or, more likely, as the cohort moves through the school and teachers become familiar with how the children learn best.
