What the Children Say About Our Uniform

BBC Newsround recently discussed school uniform and it led to some interesting Year 4 discussions about our school uniform. The children's views were overwhelmingly positive:

Annie: "I love that we don't have to get changed at school for PE/Games".

Freddie: "I love it because it is really sporty and we don't waste any PE time having to get changed".

Marley: "I like it because it is unique compared to other schools."

Amos: "I really like it, the jackets are really warm".

Haydn: "I really like it, it is more flexible".

Zachary: "It is really easy to wear".

Jewellery and Personal Belongings

Children should not wear jewellery to school as it can be dangerous in certain activities and is likely to be damaged or lost.
Children with pierced ears may wear plain stud earrings, with parents/carers taking responsibility for any accidental injury caused by children wearing earrings. These should be taken out by the child for PE, games and swimming lessons. Parents/carers will need to consider a suitable container for their safe storage. Staff members cannot be expected to take responsibility for their safe-keeping.
Since stud earrings need to be taken out during physical activities, parents/carers are advised that piercing should not take place during term time. The school would strongly advise that earrings are not worn.

Money and Other Valuables

Money and other valuables should not be brought to school, unless required for a specific activity.
Mobile phones and other electronic devices (e.g. smartwatches) should not be brought into school. In cases where parents/carers feel there is an explicit need (e.g. because your child is travelling home independently after school), parents/carers are asked to put a request in writing for your child to bring their phone into school. In such cases, the phone is to be handed in to the school office at the start of the day and collected by the child on leaving the school at the end of the day.

Cameras

Cameras should not be brought into school. A special arrangement is made by class teachers with Year 6 children during the final week in school during the Summer Term, when they can be used under teacher supervision.

Watches & FitBits

Simple analogue or digital watches can be worn by children in school, for the purpose of telling the time.
Smart watches, or ones with a camera, should not be worn in school. The reason for these items not being in school is because there is the tendency for them to be misused, which can lead to safeguarding issues. They also present an unnecessary distraction in class, as well as being expensive items which can be lost.
FitBits can be worn in school, provided they are not proving a distraction to the children’s learning. Please be mindful that if they are lost it can upset the child.
